We help educators gain experience and build confidence in teaching science.


Discover Science Center’s Expanding Minds Educator Internship is a unique opportunity for new and aspiring school teachers interested in gaining in-class science education and classroom management experience in an informal education setting. 


Benefits to participating educators:

  • Learn and assist with a variety of hands-on science activities led by our Education Team
  • Gain an additional understanding of the science behind these activities
  • Gain classroom management experience with multi-age classes
  • Experience integration of differently-abled students in a single, informal classroom setting
  • Receive science education resources for their own teaching
  • Can request positive reference letters (for interns that perform their duties well)
  • Receive a stipend for participation


Intern Responsibilities:

  • Attend training sessions prior to start of internship
  • Arrive on-time and prepared
  • Work with Lead Educators to provide a safe environment for students
  • Assist Lead Educators with hands-on science activity preparation, student engagement, and other tasks, when necessary
  • Monitor, assist and engage students during breaks
  • Lead at least one science education activity during the rotation
  • Assist with maintenance of the classrooms
  • NOTE: Intern responsibilities will vary depending on semester assignments.


Intern Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be on a career pathway in education or a science-related field.
  • Open to current teachers, graduate students, recent graduates, and Juniors and Seniors in college.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.


Summer Semester Internship

Responsibilities:

  • Lead campers through their daily camp routine while facilitating a safe and fun camp experience.
  • Assist Lead Educators with Science Summer Camp programming and camper engagement. 
  • Assist Lead Educators with off-site events, when necessary.
  • Must be comfortable working with campers from 5-11 years old.


Dates: 

  • 5-week rotations during our Science Summer Camp schedule (May 26-August 7, 2020). 
  • Interns must commit to 4-6 weeks of camp.


Hours: 

  • ~40 hours/week (8:00am-4:00pm or 9:00am-5:00pm shifts)


Location:

  • Discover Science Center/STEM Lab – 2500 Old Alabama Rd, suites 5 and 21, Roswell 30076
  • Our off-site locations, including Atlanta Academy – 2000 Holcomb Woods Parkway, Roswell 30076


Stipend:

  • $400/week
