YOUNG EXPLORERS' LABS - ROSWELL

Little kids are natural scientists! Our Young Explorers (ages 3-5 and an adult partner) use lab tools to conduct science experiments, explore nature and create science-based art. In addition to introducing scientific concepts, we also work on fine motor skills, encourage sensory play and help develop critical thinking skills through our hands-on experiments and activities. Fun for kids and adults! At least one adult partner must attend.

Ages 3-5

Fridays and Saturdays - 10:00-10:45am
Location: Science Center (suite 5) - Roswell
$15/kid (10% sibling discount)

Limited to eight Young Explorers and their adult partners.

Catapults

Friday, January 27 – 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, January 28 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids learn how to create a catapult and launch cotton ball projectiles to see how far and high they can fly.

FEBRUARY - YOUNG MARINE BIOLOGISTS

Sharks

Saturday, February 4 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids explore sharks as they investigate shark tooth shapes, learn about their skin, and touch a real, preserved spiny dogfish shark.

Squid

Friday, February 10 – 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, February 11 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids explore different types of sea shells and learn about the organisms that made them.

Sea Monkeys

Friday, February 24– 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, February 25 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids learn the science of Sea Monkeys, as they make their own mini-aquarium and hatch a population of brine shrimp.

MARCH - YOUNG GARDENERS

Seeds

Saturday, March 4- 10:00-10:45am

We explore the science of seeds as we look at different types and plant seeds to create a starter garden.

Plants

Friday, March 10– 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, March 11 – 10:00-10:45am

Today, we investigate parts of plants with a magnifying glass to see how they are similar and different.

Fruit Dissections

Saturday, March 18 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids compare the outside and inside of fruits to investigate how they grow and where the seeds are.

Composting 101

Friday, March 24 – 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, March 25 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids learn about composting and how organic material decomposes into soil as they create their own mini-compost jar.

APRIL- YOUNG ECOLOGISTS

Owl Pellets

Saturday, April 1 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids learn about owls as they dissect their own pellet to investigate the bones of what their owl ate.

Pine Cone Experiment

Friday, April 14 – 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, April 15- 10:00-10:45am

Kids learn the science of pine cones as they conduct an experiment to see how they protect and disperse their seeds.

Log Dissection

Friday, April 21 – 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, April 22 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids explore nature as we dissect a log to determine who lives inside, and what creatures decompose wood.

Reptiles and Amphibians

Friday, April 28 – 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, April 29 – 10:00-10:45am

Kids learn about snake, turtle and frog anatomy, and watch the behavior of our resident aquatic turtles.

MAY- YOUNG GEOLOGISTS

Dinosaurs and Fossils Lab

Friday, May 5 – 10:00-10:45am

Saturday, May 6 – 10:00-10:45am

Young Explorers investigate our fossil collection, learn about dinosaurs, and dig for their own treasures.

Crystals Lab
