YOUNG EXPLORERS' LABS
Little kids are natural scientists! Our Young Explorers (ages 3-5 and an adult partner) use lab tools to conduct science experiments, explore nature and create science-based art. In addition to introducing scientific concepts, we also work on fine motor skills, encourage sensory play and help develop critical thinking skills through our hands-on experiments and activities. Fun for kids and adults! At least one adult partner must attend (at no charge). Space is limited.

Mini Robots - Friday, September 4
Young Explorers are introduced to robotics with our Ozobots, to learn how they function, and move on a code map.
Exploring Nature - Friday, September 18
This week, we view nature and textures up close as we practice using magnifying glasses and digital microscopes.
Chromatography Art – Friday, October 2
Young Explorers investigate how liquids can separate pigments through capillary action, then use this process to create colorful artwork that reveal hidden color compositions.
Salt Dough Rainbow - Friday, October 16
Young Explorers make salt dough and explore color to create their own rainbow.
Flower Prints – Friday, October 23
We study natural pigments of plants as we examine how flowers and leaves contain colors and textures that can be transferred through pressure to create botanical art.
Glow Experiments - Friday, October 30
Young Explorers learn about glow-in-the-dark science and conduct an experiment with glow sticks.
Earth Painting – Friday, November 6
Students explore properties of soil that create different colors and textures, then use earth materials as natural pigments to create landscape artwork.
Impressions from Nature – Friday, November 13
This week, students explore textures and patterns in nature and create clay impression art using objects from the outdoors.
Floating Ink – Friday, November 20
We experiment with liquids by creating a density gradient, then use these properties in Suminagashi floating ink techniques to create flowing marbled artworks.
Shadow Art – Friday, December 4
Students investigate how light travels, then use these principles of light, reflection and obstruction to design creative shadow art and storytelling scenes.
Sun Prints – Friday, December 11
This week, we explore how ultraviolet light from the sun triggers chemical reactions, then create art using these reactions to form detailed sun-captured images.
Oobleck – Friday, December 18
Young Explorers create an unusual substance that acts like a liquid and a solid.
