MINI-MED AND VET SCHOOL
June 19-23
8:30am-4:30pm
Ages 6-8 - Campers learn about the tools doctors and veterinarians use, study how our bodies and our pets’ bodies work, get grossed out with brains, burps and x-rays, and investigate germs.
Ages 8-11 - This week we study how the body works, use microscopes to see what different types of cells look like, and even investigate a real (not human) heart and brain. Our Doctors-In-Training learn basic first aid and care for animals, as well as study dental and bone x-rays.

NATURE SCIENCE
June 26- 30
8:30am-4:30pm
Ages 6-8 - Campers explore the world around them as they investigate the biology and ecology of plants and animals and the environment they inhabit. We dissect owl pellets, investigate bugs, make a terrarium, and look for wildlife on our nature hikes.
Ages 8-11 - We spend the week studying nature as we investigate snake biology, study what owls eat, explore bug habitats, learn about mosses, lichen and mushrooms and look for wildlife on our nature hikes.

LEGO® DESIGN CAMP
Monday, July 3
8:30am-4:30pm
Ages 6-11
Campers join us for a day of LEGO® design and engineering. We explore fundamental engineering principles related to force and motion, explore how simple machines and mechanisms reduce the effort needed to move objects, and design and construct structures and machines out of LEGO® to investigate how design affects functionality.

CODING WEEK
July 5-7 (3 days)
8:30am-4:30pm
Ages 6-8 - Young coders use “unplugged” activities to learn how computers work and the logic of programming, practice age-appropriate online coding skills, use color to program Ozobots, and create art related to computers and coding. Campers are encouraged to bring their own device or laptop, but we have a few to share.
Ages 8-11 - Campers practice keyboarding, learn coding commands to create fun apps and games they can play at home, program our Root iRobots, and use offline activities to understand computational thinking. Campers are encouraged to bring their own tablet or laptop (a physical keyboard is needed for coding projects for 8-11 year olds), but we have a few to share.

SPACE EXPLORERS
July 10-14
8:30am-4:30pm
Ages 6-8 - Campers study space by exploring our solar system, building and launching rockets, and conducting experiments using the sun’s rays. Space explorers design and build a space station, make glow-in-the-dark planets, and create galaxy-inspired art.
Ages 8 -11- Campers learn about space and space exploration as they make and test a space shuttle glider, design and launch rockets, explore constellations, planets, moons and comets, and make a scale model of our solar system.

ROBOTICS
July 17-21
8:30am-4:30pm
Ages 6-8 – This week, we explore robots as we learn how our Ozobots work, build vibrating robots and , program with our Root robots. Campers are encouraged to bring their own device or laptop, but we have a few to share.
Ages 8-11 - Campers spend the week designing, building, and programming robots. We design our own prototypes, build and program LEGO Mindstorms and program with our Root robots. Campers are encouraged to bring their own device or laptop, but we have a few to share.

GEOLOGY AND PALEONTOLOGY
July 31 - August 2 (3 days)
8:30am-4:30pm
Ages 6-8 - This week, campers investigate characteristics of rocks and gemstones, learn about crystallization as they create their own “geodes,” study fossils and learn how they formed, and dig like a paleontologist as they search for prehistoric life forms.
Ages 8-11 - Campers explore rocks, gems and fossils, learn how they formed and practice classifying them. We experiment by creating and destroying landforms, and make crystals and fossil replicas. Campers investigate their favorite dinosaur, and tell us how they think they lived.

As our campers arrive, activities are out for them to explore independently or in small groups while we wait for everyone to get here. Some kids will investigate our saltwater tanks or feed the turtles, others will color or draw and some will play LEGO or start a game of Spot It.
Depending on the size of camp, we may split into two age groups. We always start with introductions and a name game where Camp Leaders and each kid gets to tell everyone a little bit about themselves. We go over rules and expectations for camp, and create lab notebooks. Lab notebooks are camp scrapbooks the kids use to write notes and draw pictures about what we did in camp. Without them realizing it, we try to get them to practice their handwriting skills, and for the young ones, it is a good way to work on their fine motor skills.
We start our first Science Activitie of the day. We specialize in hands-on science, so the kids are actually doing the experiments, not just watching someone do them. All of our Science Activities are developed by scientists and educators to engage the kids and encourage them to experiment and ask questions as they learn. It often results in a big, fun mess (we are always making messes).
During our morning snack break, the kids have time for free play. We recognize play is critically important for children’s development, learning and socialization skills, plus camp is about having fun, so we spend time making sure the kids get time to play and get their energy out. They often work together to design and build forts, make tops out of LEGO and challenge each other to a spin off, pull out the Snap Circuits kits, or see who can build the highest tower of cups.
Once our snack break is over, the kids get out their lab notebooks so we can start our second Science Activity. We invite the kids to draw pictures or write notes in their notebooks so they can remember what we did when they show their parents at the end of camp.
Around noon we clean up and have lunch. Again, they have free time to play or continue to work on a project they started earlier. Some kids read books from our library; others play games. If kids happen to bring a device to play with, this is one of two times during the day they can use them.
After lunch, we usually go on a nature hike at Line Creek Nature Area or free play outside if the weather permits. We set up our boundaries and let the kids play tag, or sharks and minnows or what ever other game they come up with. Depending on our day, we try to keep them playing outside for about 60 minutes. On rainy days we will extend the free time inside to let them get some extra energy out.
In the afternoon, we complete additional Science Activities with an afternoon snack break. About 4:00pm we do a group clean up. The kids help put all projects away, sweep the floor, wipe the tables, and get organized. Once that is done, the kids can play games, use their devices, draw or color until their parents pick them up. At the end of camp, the kids make sure they have all of their projects and lab notebooks to bring home and share with you.
